This white paper analyzes the potential of phycocyanin, a pigment-protein obtained from Limnospira platensis (Spirulina), as a bioactive ingredient for dermocosmetic applications. The study evaluates its stability, biocompatibility, and anti-inflammatory activity when incorporated into a shea butter lipid matrix, developed without nanoencapsulation.

The results obtained show high cell viability and a significant reduction in pro-inflammatory markers such as IL-6 and IL-8 in THP-1 cell models, confirming the potential of phycocyanin as a functional active ingredient for formulations aimed at the care of sensitive skin, skin stress, and inflammatory processes.
